Honest, dated comparisons

Compare the WordPress MCP plugins

There is a real field of MCP plugins for WordPress now. These are honest, dated head-to-heads: what each one is good at, where it falls short, and where Agent Abilities fits. Where a rival matches us or beats us, we say so on the page.

Head to head

Each comparison quotes the rival's public claims with the date we checked them, and traces our facts to the plugin readme.

What still separates us, and what no longer does

When these pages first went up, the things this plugin was built around read as unusual. They do not any more. Abilities that start off, a capability check on every call, an audit log: several WordPress MCP plugins claim all of that now, and building on the WordPress 6.9 Abilities API has gone from a differentiator to something close to standard. So we have stopped treating the word governance as an answer on its own.

Two products make an identity claim close to ours. miniOrange Secure MCP Server says on its WordPress.org listing that every MCP request runs as a genuine WordPress user account, so core capability checks apply. Respira connects through an Application Password or a scoped Respira token, in its own words on its security page. Both put the governance controls behind money: miniOrange’s pricing page starts them at 249 USD a month, and Respira states that if a licence lapses, its keys stop working.

That leaves a narrower line, and it is the one we will defend. Your agent enters as a WordPress user you control. WordPress re-checks that user’s capabilities before every call, in core, not in code of ours. And nothing in the chain belongs to a vendor: no key we mint with a scope of its own, no external service, no paid tier waiting behind the free one. Neither of the two products above can match the last part without changing how they make money.

Rival claims above are quoted from their own public pages and checked 3 August 2026. They may have changed since.

Where Agent Abilities fits

Every plugin here can connect an AI agent to WordPress. Agent Abilities for MCP is the one that hands the agent a WordPress account rather than a key of its own, keeps all 153 abilities off until you switch them on, makes no outbound calls, and costs nothing at any tier. If you would rather begin with everything disabled and open access deliberately, that is the difference these pages keep coming back to.

These comparisons reflect each product's public documentation on the date noted in each page, and each names the sources it cites. Agent Abilities for MCP is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any of the products compared. Facts about other plugins may have changed since we checked them.
