An honest shortlist, including the ones that beat us

WPVibe alternatives for WordPress MCP

We make one of these, so read the rest with that in mind. Every rival fact on this page comes from its head to head comparison and carries the date we checked it.

Why people look for a WPVibe alternative

From WPVibe's own published terms, not our opinion of it.

Two reasons, both from WPVibe’s own published terms rather than anything we think of them. Its free tier is metered, with paid plans above it, so an automation that grows eventually meets a bill or a daily allowance. And it connects through a hosted relay rather than an endpoint on your own domain, which some teams cannot accept on client sites. If neither of those is a problem for you, WPVibe is genuinely good at what it does and the fastest of any of these to a working connection.

The shortlist

Each one connects an AI client to WordPress. What each is best at is said plainly, ours included.

Ours

Agent Abilities for MCP

Free on WordPress.org, no paid tier. 600+ active installs, checked 13 October 2026.

If the metering is what you are leaving, this is the closest swap: free on WordPress.org with no paid tier above it, no API key to buy, and no usage limit the plugin imposes. The MCP endpoint lives on your own domain, so nothing of ours sits between the agent and WordPress, and the agent connects as a real WordPress user whose capabilities WordPress itself re-checks on every call.

Where it loses: WPVibe is faster to a first connection and asks for approval before destructive work in its own interface. We have no hosted anything, so setup is yours to do, and our install base is a fraction of theirs. If you want the shortest path rather than the most control, staying put is a defensible answer.

Alternative

Easy MCP AI

10,000+ active installs, 13 ratings (WordPress.org, checked 13 October 2026)

Easy MCP sells breadth, and since its 1.7.17 release it is published by Themeisle on WordPress.org (checked 28 September 2026). It advertises 283 tools, exposes them broadly the moment you install, and adds connectors that pull SEO and analytics data from outside providers into your agent. If your goal is the widest possible reach on day one, that is a real strength.

Best at: Raw tool count, client coverage, external SEO and analytics data.

Alternative

Royal MCP

10,000+ active installs, 7 ratings (WordPress.org, checked 13 October 2026)

Royal MCP sells reach and operational polish. It documents more AI platforms, including ChatGPT, Gemini, and local models, opens a preconfigured WordPress Playground demo straight from its product page, and keeps a deep library of host-specific troubleshooting guides. It is inbound-only with an explicit no-telemetry stance, so on privacy it is close to us. If breadth of client coverage and support content is what you weigh most, that is its strength.

Best at: More documented clients and platforms, local models, and a deep troubleshooting library.

Alternative

Enable Abilities for MCP

4,000+ active installs, 12 ratings (WordPress.org, checked 13 October 2026)

Enable Abilities for MCP has grown a long way past the small companion it was when we first wrote this page. As of 2.13.0 it ships 112 abilities across 21 categories, an embedded OAuth 2.1 server that connects claude.ai with nothing but a URL, and a ChatGPT path through dynamic client registration behind a callback allowlist. It shares our off-by-default instinct, it logs every execution under the real user, and on raw integration coverage it reaches further than we do in places. What it still does not do is serve anything by itself.

Best at: A bigger catalog than ours in several integrations, more than six times the installs, and their own OAuth server for claude.ai and ChatGPT.

Alternative

AI Engine

90,000+ active installs, 870 ratings (WordPress.org, checked 13 October 2026)

AI Engine sells breadth and momentum. It is a whole AI platform with 90,000+ installs and 870 ratings, and MCP is one part of it. Turn the MCP module on and it exposes a wide core tool set to admin-level access, then its Pro tier adds plugin, theme, database, and WooCommerce management on top. It deliberately refuses arbitrary PHP execution in the official plugin, which is a fair safety line to draw. If you want AI features across your whole site and MCP as a bonus, that reach is the draw.

Best at: Scale, a full AI suite far beyond MCP, and fast, active development.

Open source

The official WordPress MCP Adapter

Maintained by the WordPress project. Not a plugin you configure from wp-admin.

The Adapter bridges the WordPress 6.9 Abilities API to MCP and is the foundation several plugins on this page are built on, ours included. On its own it gives you the transport and expects you to supply and govern the abilities, so it suits teams who want to assemble the stack deliberately rather than install one.

Best at: maximum control, no vendor in the chain at all, and the cleanest long-term footing since it is the official project.

How to choose between them

They differ on four things. Decide which you care about before you install anything.

Where the endpoint lives

On your own domain, or behind a relay somebody else runs.

What the agent authenticates as

A real WordPress user whose capabilities core re-checks on every call, or a key the plugin mints with a scope of its own.

Whether anything leaves your site

A plugin that enriches with external SEO or analytics data is making outbound calls, which is a fine trade as long as you know you are making it.

What the audit log records

A log of successes cannot tell you what was attempted and refused.

Frequently asked questions

Direct answers for anyone replacing WPVibe.

Is there a free WPVibe alternative?

Yes, more than one. Agent Abilities for MCP is free on WordPress.org with no paid tier above it, no API key to buy, and no usage limit added by the plugin. Easy MCP AI, Royal MCP, Enable Abilities for MCP, AI Engine each have a free route as well, with different limits, and the official WordPress MCP Adapter is open source. The honest framing is that "free" means something different in each case, so the thing to check is what sits behind the paid tier rather than whether one exists.

What should I actually look at when replacing WPVibe?

Four things, in this order. Where the endpoint lives, on your own domain or behind somebody else’s relay. What the agent authenticates as, a real WordPress user whose capabilities core re-checks, or a key the plugin mints with a scope of its own. Whether anything leaves your site, since a plugin that enriches data is making outbound calls. And whether the audit log records refusals as well as successes, because a log of only what succeeded cannot tell you what was attempted.

Is WPVibe a bad choice?

No. This page exists because people search for alternatives, not because we think you were wrong to install it. WPVibe is faster to a first connection and asks for approval before destructive work in its own interface. We have no hosted anything, so setup is yours to do, and our install base is a fraction of theirs. If you want the shortest path rather than the most control, staying put is a defensible answer.
