WooCommerce Square abilities, governed through the Bridge

Once enabled, an agent can read the Square OAuth connection state, the merchant's Square locations, overall sync status, the sync log, pending background sync jobs, a single product's sync state, and a single order's Square payment and refund status.

What has to be true first

Needs WordPress 6.9 or newer, WooCommerce 10.9 or newer, and WooCommerce Square all active, plus the woocommerce_square_abilities_enabled filter enabled in code. Every ability checks manage_woocommerce.

  • The woocommerce_square_abilities_enabled filter must be hooked to return true; it defaults to false and the plugin ships no settings-screen toggle for it, so a site owner or another plugin must add the filter in code.
  • WooCommerce 10.9 or newer must be active, since the abilities are registered through WooCommerce Core's own AbilitiesLoader (via the woocommerce_ability_definition_classes filter) rather than this plugin calling wp_register_ability() directly; on older WooCommerce the feature silently no-ops.
  • The filter must be hooked before WooCommerce Square's own plugins_loaded initialization runs, or the registration silently no-ops even with the filter set to true.

How to switch these on

Four steps from two active plugins to a governed connection.

  1. Install WooCommerce Square and Agent Abilities for MCP

Both plugins need to be active on the same WordPress site. WooCommerce Square registers its own abilities; this plugin discovers and governs them.

  2. Open the Other plugins screen

In Agent Abilities for MCP, open the Bridge tab (labeled "Other plugins" in the admin). Abilities from every registered plugin appear there, grouped by the plugin that registered them.

  3. Enable one ability at a time

Every ability from WooCommerce Square starts off. Turn on only the ones you want an agent to reach, or enable the whole set in one click.

  4. Connect as a least-privilege user

Approve the connection as a WordPress account scoped to what you actually want the agent to do. Each call still re-checks that account’s capability before it runs.

Frequently asked questions

Does WooCommerce Square work with the Bridge?

Conditionally. The plugin ships seven fully annotated ability definitions, but they only reach the core Abilities API registry when the woocommerce_square_abilities_enabled filter is flipped to true and WooCommerce 10.9 or newer supplies the AbilitiesLoader; on a default install with an older WooCommerce, nothing registers.

What has to be true for WooCommerce Square's abilities to register?

The woocommerce_square_abilities_enabled filter must be hooked to return true; it defaults to false and the plugin ships no settings-screen toggle for it, so a site owner or another plugin must add the filter in code.. WooCommerce 10.9 or newer must be active, since the abilities are registered through WooCommerce Core's own AbilitiesLoader (via the woocommerce_ability_definition_classes filter) rather than this plugin calling wp_register_ability() directly; on older WooCommerce the feature silently no-ops.. The filter must be hooked before WooCommerce Square's own plugins_loaded initialization runs, or the registration silently no-ops even with the filter set to true..

Does WooCommerce Square need anything special to work with the Bridge?

Needs WordPress 6.9 or newer, WooCommerce 10.9 or newer, and WooCommerce Square all active, plus the woocommerce_square_abilities_enabled filter enabled in code. Every ability checks manage_woocommerce.
