Bulk-fix SEO titles and meta descriptions

Before you start

A connected site with content reads on and your SEO plugin's write ability enabled (Yoast, Rank Math, or All in One SEO). Take a database backup before a large run.

Most sites have a category where the SEO titles all drifted the same way: half of them are the post title repeated, a few are duplicates of each other, and the meta descriptions are either missing or the first line of the post. Fixing that by hand means opening every post, and you stop after four.

This hands the reading and the rewriting to the agent and keeps the deciding with you.

The prompt
I want to clean up the SEO titles and descriptions on [the posts in the
"Guides" category]. I have [Rank Math] turned on.
Work in two passes. First pass, change nothing: pull the current SEO title and
description for each post and hand me back a table, the current value beside a
suggested rewrite, for the first [10]. Aim titles at roughly 60 characters and
descriptions at roughly 155, and write each one to earn a click rather than to
repeat a keyword. Leave the post body alone.
I will tell you which rewrites to keep. Only after I say so, write the approved
ones back through the SEO plugin, then work through the rest in small batches
and show me each batch before it saves. At the end, list every post you touched.

Why this is safe to run

The whole first pass is reads. Listing the posts and pulling each one’s SEO fields writes nothing, so you get to see every proposed change as a table before a single value is saved.

The write half only reaches the SEO title and description through your SEO plugin’s own field. It never touches the post body, and it never publishes or unpublishes anything. On top of that, the SEO write ability is off until you enable it, every call is checked against the capability of the user you bound the agent to, and every write lands in the Activity Log with the post it changed. If a rewrite is wrong, the log tells you exactly which post to open.

Already connected? You do not have to paste this at all. Ask your agent for the “bulk-fix SEO titles and descriptions” recipe, or just describe the job, and it runs the same two-pass flow on your own site.

How it works

  1. List the posts in the category or URL set you name.
  2. Read the current SEO title and meta description on each one.
  3. Show a before-and-after table for a small sample and wait for your approval.
  4. Write the approved rewrites back through your SEO plugin, in small batches, pausing to show each batch.
  5. Return the list of every post it changed so you can review it.

Questions

Does this change the visible post content?
No. It writes only the SEO title and meta description through your SEO plugin. The post body is never touched.
Which SEO plugins does it work with?
Yoast, Rank Math, and All in One SEO. The agent uses whichever one you have enabled, and the SEO write abilities stay off until you turn them on.
