Jetpack abilities, governed through the Bridge

An agent can list and toggle Jetpack feature modules, check and rebuild the XML sitemap, read a post's shortlink and Jetpack-computed related posts, and read or adjust Jetpack Monitor's uptime-notification settings.

What has to be true first

Jetpack must be installed and active on WordPress 6.9 or later, and a site-side filter must turn on jetpack_wp_abilities_enabled before any of these abilities register at all. Reading module lists and monitor status checks the jetpack_admin_page capability, changing module status also checks jetpack_manage_modules and jetpack_activate_modules, and the sitemap, shortlink, and related-posts abilities check edit_posts or manage_options.

  • Nothing registers unless something on the site adds add_filter('jetpack_wp_abilities_enabled', '__return_true'); the filter ships defaulting to false and Jetpack itself never flips it.
  • Once that filter is on, the Sitemaps, Shortlinks, Related Posts, and Monitor abilities still register, but each returns an error at call time unless that module is active (Monitor also requires a connected Jetpack account).
  • Several ability categories easymcp lists (Connection, Backup, Stats, Forms, Newsletter) were not found registering abilities anywhere in this free zip and are unverified.

A note on the count below

Only 5 of the 10 categories easymcp lists (Modules, Sitemaps, Monitor, Related Posts, Shortlinks) were found registering abilities in this free zip; Connection, Backup, Stats, Forms, and Newsletter abilities were not found in the evidence and may require an active Jetpack connection, a paid plan, or ship in a part of the plugin the evidence pass did not capture.

How to switch these on

Four steps from two active plugins to a governed connection.

  1. Install Jetpack and Agent Abilities for MCP

Both plugins need to be active on the same WordPress site. Jetpack registers its own abilities; this plugin discovers and governs them.

  2. Open the Other plugins screen

In Agent Abilities for MCP, open the Bridge tab (labeled "Other plugins" in the admin). Abilities from every registered plugin appear there, grouped by the plugin that registered them.

  3. Enable one ability at a time

Every ability from Jetpack starts off. Turn on only the ones you want an agent to reach, or enable the whole set in one click.

  4. Connect as a least-privilege user

Approve the connection as a WordPress account scoped to what you actually want the agent to do. Each call still re-checks that account’s capability before it runs.

Frequently asked questions

Does Jetpack work with the Bridge?

Conditionally. Every Jetpack ability registrar shares one base class whose init() only wires up registration when the 'jetpack_wp_abilities_enabled' filter returns true, and that filter defaults to false, so none of Jetpack's abilities register at all until a site adds code to flip it on.

What has to be true for Jetpack's abilities to register?

Nothing registers unless something on the site adds add_filter('jetpack_wp_abilities_enabled', '__return_true'); the filter ships defaulting to false and Jetpack itself never flips it.. Once that filter is on, the Sitemaps, Shortlinks, Related Posts, and Monitor abilities still register, but each returns an error at call time unless that module is active (Monitor also requires a connected Jetpack account).. Several ability categories easymcp lists (Connection, Backup, Stats, Forms, Newsletter) were not found registering abilities anywhere in this free zip and are unverified..

Does Jetpack need anything special to work with the Bridge?

Jetpack must be installed and active on WordPress 6.9 or later, and a site-side filter must turn on jetpack_wp_abilities_enabled before any of these abilities register at all. Reading module lists and monitor status checks the jetpack_admin_page capability, changing module status also checks jetpack_manage_modules and jetpack_activate_modules, and the sitemap, shortlink, and related-posts abilities check edit_posts or manage_options.

More Backup plugins

An agent can list recent backups with their status and size, start a new full-site or database-only backup, and poll a specific backup's progress until it completes.

BackWPup

Conditional

An agent can list configured backup jobs, check whether a backup is currently running, start one on demand, cancel a stuck job, and pull backup log content to diagnose a failure, which is useful for taking a safety backup right before a risky change.

An agent can list backup snapshots, backup jobs, destinations, schedules, and queue items, look up a single backup, job, or queue item by id, and read the dashboard summary and system information. None of the ten abilities carry readonly or destructive annotations in the source, so none can be trusted at face value not to write.
